Guide
How Long Should I Rent a Dumpster for a Kitchen Remodel?
Seven days is enough for most kitchen remodels, because nearly all the debris comes out during demolition. Time delivery for the day before demo and pickup for the day after. A full kitchen usually fits a 20-yard dumpster, with 3 tons included.

When does the debris actually come out?
On a typical kitchen remodel, cabinets, counters, flooring and damaged drywall all come out in the first few days. After demo, the work is plumbing, electrical, drywall and install, which produces boxes and offcuts rather than tons of debris. That's why one demo week covers most of the volume.
What if my remodel runs longer than 7 days?
Each day past the included 7 is $25. If your contractor will tear out more after a gap, such as flooring in the next room two weeks later, a short second rental can be cheaper than keeping the first dumpster through idle weeks.
Call before your pickup date to extend. Early pickup is fine too: call when you're done.
Which size fits a kitchen remodel?
A kitchen gut fits a 20-yard dumpster in most homes. Choose a 15-yard for a small galley kitchen with no flooring work, and a 30-yard if the kitchen remodel includes opening a wall or redoing flooring through the house. Stone counters and mortar-set tile are the heavy items to watch.
See remodeling dumpsters for sizes by room, and the 20-yard dumpster page for its specs.
FAQ
Kitchen remodel dumpster questions
Can the dumpster sit in the driveway while contractors park?
A 20-yard takes about 22 × 8 ft. If the contractor needs the driveway, a 15-yard at 16 ft long leaves more room.
Can old appliances go in a kitchen remodel dumpster?
Ranges and dishwashers can go in. Refrigerators and other appliances with Freon are $50 each.
